11/29/2017 – Text field on text field

A form calls for a binary condition based on the engraving options on a particular product. The two options have different maximums for text length, and number of lines. Originally, the form had a free form text box in hopes the user would understand the parameters of the types of merchandise. Now when the user selects which of the two options they want, it will only display the input fields that are correct for that choice. If the option changes, hide the previous input fields and unhide the appropriate ones.

As you can see I separated out the lines that had similar groupings. Engraving lines 1&2 and Dog Tag lines 1&2 are the text input fields literately sitting on top of each other on the form, making them a very unwieldy design element.

Lastly, you have to build in that logic defying if/then/A SUDDEN THIRD THING OCCURS SOMEHOW.

How do you un-check a radio button? Apparently, you would actually have to change some code on the website; Yikes!

EDIT: Yep, I see the top option under the ‘catch-all’ is incorrect. It should hide the fields in the first parameter.

11/28/2017 – Toast

Welp… the form work is going, however, I’m 40 minutes into screen capturing, and it’s really not performing very well.  Within the gui, the ability to create a simple box shape with a mouse isn’t there.  SO!  I will post a non branded iteration of it once completed.  Back to work!

EDIT:  So, I got to about here;

11/27/2017 – …and it looks like rain?

So, this one I’ll have to come back to edit, as not to be a sole excuse for the post existing in the first place.  Have you ever have an evening like this?  You’re excited to start a new project, and you spend a good three hours getting your environment ready to be the most perfect productive environment… all to run out of time, or be overcome by tiredness.

There is a form project that I would like to get a head start on.  It needs clip art.  I figured it would be a perfect time to do a photoshop/perfectforms screencast combo.  Went through supposed non-copyrighted background music to no avail.  Setup a information screen explaining what the video was about.  Re-configure the screen capture software.  Create a folder structure for work print files and open programs, saving something into them, and exiting the program, so that when I am recording it should go back to the correct path right away.

It’s almost 9:00pm now, and I’m down to four smokes.  🙁   Project tabled for the evening?

EDIT: Sadly, project was pushed back.  Will start fresh tomorrow.

11/26/2017 – Crapshoot

I was really hoping the etymology of crapshoot involved firing rounds into actual piles of shit. Oh well.

11/25/2017 – Black Friday Meh.

There was not a single sale on anything I would purchase for myself, nor anyone else as a gift.

Even if I had, discounts on already reasonably priced merchandise was non existent, but there did seem to be a few manufacture based discounts for older models of items they are trying to clear out. As a loss leader, once your are out of stock for the specific channel — the problem seemingly solves itself but it does leave you with many angry unfulfilled customers.

The flip-side to the later is to have such a low quantity of item available, its own exclusivity can drive up the costs. If it’s unreasonable to hike up the price point further, you can bundle it with accessories & add-ons at higher prices than if everything was purchased individually. Create a slight variant of the product and slap on a ‘collectors edition’ or ‘exclusive’ label on it and charge even more.

I had not experienced having this Friday away from work since before I can recall, so as I spent the early morning hours trying to see if I could find a deal on anything I was planning on purchasing.  I grew increasingly disappointed as the morning went on.  I am really confused to what people are waiting in lines for days in advance for (even bypassing a holiday at that).
